The Sing Family
The Sings were from Grey County in Ontario, Canada and came to Newdale in 1901-02. Mrs. Sing was living with her daughter and son in law, Edith and Thomas Peter, when the 1901 census was taken, while Mr. Sing and their daughter Rebecca were still in Ontario. By 1906, the couple was living in Basswood with Rebecca. Mr. Sing managed his son-in-law’s store for a few years, later they farmed. Then they moved to Newdale and Mr. Sing was a notary public and insurance agent. Josiah died in 1918, aged 86; Mary Jane in 1924 at age 92. Daughter Rebecca died in British Columbia in 1957.

Already I have learned a bit more about the son, Charles. He was a Methodist clergyman, and moved from Ontario to Manitoba, Saskatchewan and Albert. By 1911, according to the census, he was living in British Columbia, at Prince Rupert. He died in Victoria, British Columbia in 1947. There is at least one family tree at Ancestry which includes the Sing family. I will try to get in touch with the owner of that tree.
